Good Morning, Neighbors!
Happy Blue Monday!
I hope you’re not feeling blue! Today’s article will make you smile! We all know our beautiful city is known to have the best singers in the world. In my era, there was Baltimore City’s own Dru-Hill and Jodeci cassettes in my radio player! I remember spending my Friday and Saturday night’s at the world famous Hammer Jacks, Louie Louie’s and the Paradox right here in the heart of our city. For our grandparents though is was a totally different story. Their Baltimore greats included legendary divas such as our own Billie Holiday, Ethel Ennis and Ruby Glover! Also, the smooth and debonair sounds of Duke Ellington, Cab Calloway and Eubie Banks. The world famous Club Tijuana and The Royal Theater was their spot to dance in Baltimore City! It was well before our time but it’s history can be felt all over our city. Great-grandparents, please enlighten our community on the rich history of Blues. Our neighbors want to know all about your Blues experiences growing up in Baltimore. Please tell us all about the exciting singers, groups and bands that performed right here in our city. What were our dance clubs like back then? Have you met anyone famous in the Blues era? Blues Musicians, singers and bands join in to share your experiences here. It can be from the past or present! Explain to your community the origin of Blues and what it meant to you and your family, then and now. Are there any new Blues Artists that you listen to today? Why or why not? Neighbors, if you know of any Blues Clubs in our city, please post the details for everyone!
