Baltimore City, MD- Local residents around town are joyous in celebrating a King! It was in 1983 when President Ronald Reagan signed a bill to honor King through a Federal Holiday. Today, Americans pay tribute, Monday, January 17. Dr. King born on January 15,1929 in Atlanta, Georgia. He died on April 4,1968 in Memphis, Tennessee. A well-known Social Activist that played an imperative key role in the Civil Rights Movement. Dr. King advocated to end poverty. His greatest accomplishments are admired and praised by residents all over the globe. There’s no wonder that there are seven-hundred streets named after MLK all around the world. Dr. King earned his prestigious Doctorate in Systematic Theology at Boston University in 1955. In his lifetime, Dr. King had over 2,500 speeches that addressed inequality, racism and segregation. Many local residents had the privilege of seeing Dr. King right here in Baltimore City. Our grandparents have many cherished memories of him here in our local area. Two highly acclaimed visits included these two events in the heart of our city. Morgan State had the honor of Dr. King’s in person speech on December 29, 1956 at the University’s Convention. Another historical Dr. King’s visit took place in downtown Baltimore City. On October 30,1964, Dr. King spoke to our residents about the importance of African Americans to vote.
