Baltimore City-Tax season has begun and many residents have already filed their tax return. If you haven’t already, there’s still time. The deadline to file this year is April 18th! What’s trending in and all around town? You’ve guessed it. The hottest topic in households throughout our local community is where’s our tax refund? It affects us locally and across the nation right now. BBS has a little information to share with our residents today. Hopefully it will make a difference in the lives of someone you know. For the most up-to-date details of your tax return, you can always visit the IRS online for both federal and state statuses. Be sure to have your tax return at hand while using their site. They will need information from your form to answer your questions. Please visit irs.gov/refund and click on the “where’s my refund tab” for federal returns. For our local community, you can visit marylandtaxes.gov. They will give you a tentative date as well as processing information. Some residents are concerned that their neighbors have already received one or both of their returns and want to know. It is mainly due to e-filing. Their tax return was was file electronically. Another factor to consider is if you want to receive your check by mail or direct deposit. Tax payers are noting that direct deposit checks have a significant turn around to receive their returns faster. Also, you can check with your tax preparer for updates. There are some changes involved with the Child Tax Credit this year. Be sure to bring your IRS Letter 6419 with you when you file. Be sure to ask your preparer questions about your concerns before filing! Many local residents are utilizing our local community centers again this year. These centers are conveniently located throughout your neighborhood and can offer free tax help and tax preparation for you and your loved ones. Please look online for a center that is closest to you. Another popular option is to file yourself at home. There are many applications that will walk you through the steps of filing your taxes to save you money. Many have customer service representatives readily available to answer your questions!
