Marylanders are celebrating Harriet Tubman’s Birthday in a big way!

Black History Month- There’s a celebration happening around town and BBS wants you to be the first to know about it. Everyone knows that February is a spectacular month to celebrate Black History! Residents are super excited about learning out African American culture, rich history and the many contributions and inventions to our society! There’s an event that we’re sure that you and your loved ones don’t want to miss! It’s a three-day event that you’ll want to be part of. It’s all happening on Friday, March 11th from 7pm-9pm. This free, virtual event is the start of many enriched activities to come. It will be a short, documentary film entitled “Rooted Wisdom: Nature’s Role in the Underground Railroad.” You can purchase your free tickets at bit.ly/RootedWisdomPremiere. Registration is highly encouraged! Many have asked, “Who was Ms.Tubman?”BBS will take you back in history if you aren’t familiar with Harriet’s incredible journey, we got you covered! American Abolitionist and Political Activist and very devoutly religious. Harriet Tubman was born Araminta Ross in March 1882! She escaped slavery in the North in year 1849. Harriet is most known for for freeing over 700 slaves including her own family that lived right here in Maryland. A true, icon of courage and bravery!  Ms. Tubman was also the most famous conductor on the Underground Railroad. Harriet Tubman was also the first woman to lead an armed expedition in the war. In the American Civil War, she served as an Armed Scout for our Union Army. These are only a few of her amazing contributions to American History and all the reasons to celebrate her birthday with your community members!
